THE ART OF BELONGING
We all want to belong somewhere, don’t we. But what is belonging? And why does it matter? Perhaps it’s easier to understand when we think about how not belonging feels: Phoebe Stone, the children’s author once said “Not belonging is a terrible feeling. It feels awkward and it hurts, as if you were wearing someone else’s shoes”.
We all want to feel known and valued, and that feels even more important in church.
“Church is not an organisation you join; it’s a family where you belong, a home where you’re loved, and a hospital where you find healing” says Nicky Gumbel, but it’s not always a process that’s straightforward and easy. So in this series, we’re going to break it down into stages and look at some of the elements that contribute to a true sense of belonging.
