Defying Gravity
You’re standing in a room full of people. You look out to see who you could talk with, connect with. You spot someone you think you recognise and you make a beeline for them. Why? Because our natural tendency is to gravitate towards someone like ourselves, someone we know, someone familiar.
It’s true in churches, too. The gravitational pull of any church is always towards insiders – those already part of the church.
Yet Jesus defied gravity! Instead of spending his time with the religious leaders and teachers of the day, he went out of his way to meet tax collectors, prostitutes, lepers, those on the margins of society. So how can Jesus’ mission, be our mission? How can we defy gravity?
